繼短袖球衣後，NBA球隊又有新創意，根據《美聯社》報導，2013-14年球季將出現「外號球衣」，率先試水溫的球隊正是衛冕軍邁阿密熱火，與新球季焦點之一的布魯克林籃網。
外號球衣的構想最早是熱火球團提出，聯盟目前沒有正式宣布這個計畫，但消息人士透露，只消幾個禮拜的時間就能跑完流程。
屆時球衣背後不再寫著球員姓氏，例如LeBron James就會變成「King James」、Dwyane Wade可能會用他喜愛的「Three」當作名稱。
順帶一提，Wade對數字「3」情有獨鍾，除了背號是3號，今年他拿到生涯第3座總冠軍時，一度想將自己的名字改為「Three」。
「這代表聯盟正在發展，我們必須適應身邊改變的一切。」熱火射手Ray Allen說：「每個人都有外號，這是一個能讓球迷更認識我們的方法。」
在多次被外界猜測將參加經典賽後，紅雀隊內野手Matt Carpenter今天終於表態將代表美國隊出賽，另外同隊的頂級新秀Alex Reyes也表示將加入多明尼加國家隊，幫助球隊完成衛冕。
「我一直都想參加看看世界棒球經典賽，而紅雀隊准許了我去參賽。」Reyes接受訪問時如此表示。
而Carpenter的加入則會給美國隊的野手戰力帶來顯著的提升，他能守三個內野位置，甚至也能支援中外野，多功能的守位將會強化美國隊的陣容深度。而優異的打擊能力，將能很好的補上球隊所需要的開路先先鋒人選。
紅雀總管John Mozeliak表示，在不受傷的前提下，樂於看到選手們去參加經典賽，這對他們來說是一個很好的經驗。
